Lin, 65, started from almost nothing over 30 years ago, as a hydroelectric apprentice. Today, via investments in real estate along the way, the entrepreneur owns one of Taiwan’s largest no-frills supermarket chains. PX Mart, which he bought from the government in 1998, offers hypermarket-level prices, and now has more than 700 outlets nationwide. Lin also heads Hwatai Bank and real estate developer Yuanlih Construction. Last year, he invested US$1.5 million in iChef, a Taiwanese start-up offering mobile restaurant management.
