Tsai Ming-Kai

Tsai, 65, is known in Taiwan as the godfather of chip design. The electrical engineer started MediaTek in 1997, making computer CD drives and DVD player chips. The real breakthrough came in the 2000s, when Chinese mobile phone makers found that his chip technology could be more easily used and was cheaper than other wireless chipmakers.
