The Edison George Town is Rina Teoh’s first flagship hotel under the ET Group, but the executive director knows not to take things for granted since stepping up to the role. “It is very easy to lose focus when one is busy working through the many challenges of building their successful businesses,” Rina shares.
A true blue Penangite, Rina and her husband have spent their careers in the hospitality industry, boasting more than 50 years of experience together. They now focus on hospitality consultancy, management and development under the ET Group umbrella. The Edison hotel brand is the couple’s first foray to redefine conventional hospitality, by introducing a fresh and relevant concept to enhance the hotel stay.
“Our approach is to bring together the best of what we do in a simple yet understated luxurious style by offering what guests want. Keeping things simple and creative coupled with a prime location fortifies the approach of our hospitality concept,” says Rina who reveals that extra care was taken to comply with heritage regulations when restoring the building situated within the George Town World Heritage Zone.
She cites being adaptive and channelling her energy towards things that matter as one of her main work philosophies she practises daily. The group is currently exploring opportunities to expand in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, both in the redevelopment and reflagging of existing properties as well as Myeik, Myanmar, which is known as the gateway to the Mergui Archipelago.
