Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Bhd (KTC) is the epitome of perseverance and passion. “From the beginning, my late grandfather Datuk Lau Yeong Ching knew that he wanted to build an empire that is guided by strong values and noble principles. To that, he embedded his visions and dreams into the company’s name. ‘Kim’, ‘Teck’ and ‘Cheong’ means ‘gold’, ‘moral’ and ‘expansion’ respectfully,” Dexter proudly denotes.
Despite going public in 2015, the Lau family is still heavily involved in the day-to-day running of the company. With his father Datuk Lau Kok Sing sitting on the board of directors, Dexter is well aware of his duty as the executive director. However, the responsibility became more apparent after the birth of his son Andrew Lau, heralding the next chapter of the Lau lineage. “Being a father now has brought me so much joy that I never knew could exist. And looking at my son, I want our future to be a celebration filled with laughter and excitement as KTC continuously abounds with success.”
Dexter relates that having two successful predecessors means failure is not an option. However, he is optimistic that he is on the right track. “To gear KTC towards a new era, I will further increase the company’s efficiency and deliver optimum results as well as build trust with my internal and external stakeholders.”
