Dr Tony Tan

In 2014, Dr Tan became the first Singapore president to make a state visit to the UK, where he announced the renewal of the UK-Singapore Partners in Science Agreement, first launched in 2004. The partnership encourages joint work between both sides in science, while expanding to include innovation and widen research agenda. He was also given the King Charles II Medal by the Royal Society — awarded to foreign heads of state who have made an outstanding contribution to furthering scientific research — making him the fifth recipient to date.
