Daeng Hamizah Abd Aziz
The young group chief operating officer of Astaka Holdings is one who believes that insistence on perfection is what differentiates the person from the others and that reputation is built upon trust. “Consistency, flexibility, honesty and generosity are just a few values that are essential to sustain the company’s legacy. Ultimately, to sustain a business demands leadership that can see the glass as half full even when others are seeing it as half empty,” Daeng Hamizah Abd Aziz elaborates, revealing her aspiration to be a great leader with firm principles that can inspire the whole organisation to achieve the company’s vision. Currently overseeing Astaka’s development projects, Daeng hopes to pioneer the transformation of Johor Bahru into Malaysia’s most prominent city after Kuala Lumpur. But to do that, she will need a strong balance sheet. “To attract foreign investors, I will need to ensure a good internal administrative monitoring to enhance productivity and add value to the company, which will then translate into effective and timely delivery of services to the stakeholders.” Apart from The Astaka project, which is set to be the tallest residential towers in Southeast Asia, Hamizah is also working on the new headquarters of Johor Bahru City Council designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, one of the world’s largest and most influential architecture firms.
