Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan

Tan started as a bank clerk at 17 before becoming an insurance agent. The ambitious young man bought his first McDonald’s franchise at 28. In 1984, he acquired a major controlling stake in Berjaya Industrial, and developed it into a diversified conglomerate with businesses in property, hotels, gaming and clean technology. Tan, 63, has invested in US-listed e-payments provider MOL Global and Malaysian telecom provider U Mobile; he also owns English football club Cardiff City.
