The Hansgrohe Group’s design brand Axor has launched a new brand campaign, Axor Places. Accordingly, Axor Places explores the very personal places of memory of well-known designers like Jean-Marie Massaud, Phoenix Design and Barber & Osgerby. The campaign highlights the origin of materials and its journey of conversion into the highly individualised, masterfully crafted mounting plates featured in Axor’s MyEdition faucet collection.

In this instalment, The Wood Story offers a portrait of a master carpenter, Jürgen Gaiser. Walnut is one of the most beautiful high-grade woods, he says. Axor sources the walnut featured in the Axor MyEdition collection from sustainably managed forests in North America and Canada.
First, trees are felled, sawed into logs and then sliced in the veneer preparation area. Next, a close inspection helps carpenters select pieces with the perfect grain. The wood veneers are then glued together by hand.
The veneer strips are glued together crosswise to form a stable bond. Consequently, this step ensures the wood does not warp when it encounters moisture. The veneer packets are then pressed and cut into the dimensions of the final format.
For greater stability, the wood panel is milled out on the backside. Afterwards, it is glued with a stainless-steel plate before a laser singes the Axor logo to the plate. Furthermore, a skilled craftsman oils the surfaces to protect the natural material, granting it an elegant appearance. The final product is a seamlessly smooth plate, with wood that retains its natural colour and radiant charm.
The Axor Places of Memory series emphasises the dedication the brand places in sourcing the finest materials that give Axor MyEdition its exclusive appearance, be it in marble, wood, or leather. Passionate master craftsmen and women uphold the spirit of artisan manufacturing as raw materials are finely processed to perfection.
