Coach has just announced Michael B. Jordan as the first ever global face of their menswear business! The actor and producer will model everything from ready-to-wear, accessories and fragrance.
In a statement, Creative Director Stuart Vevers described the star of Black Panther (2018) as someone who really embodies the Coach guy. “He always looks great in Coach, so it felt really natural to build our relationship,” he said.
Jordan shared his sentiment too, touching on the respect he has for Stuart Vevers’ vision. He added, “I’m looking forward to jumping into the creative process and exploring fashion through a different lens.”
While we await the the launch of Coach’s Spring 2019 campaign for Jordan’s debut, we’re getting ready with a little “research” on Michael B. Jordan. And, we like what we found…
#1 Sharing the same name with the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan, it’s no wonder the actor chose to include his middle initial in his credits. He once joked, “It gets annoying.” The ‘B’ in his name stands for “Bakari”, which is Swahili for “noble promise”.
#2 Jordan admits that although acting was never part of his plan, he had done small modelling gigs for local companies, as well as one for Toys “R” Us. His first acting role came in 1999 when he made small appearances in an episode of Cosby as well as The Sopranos.
#3 He was compared to “a young Denzel Washington” by film critic Todd McCarthy after staring in Fruitvale Station (2013). If you didn’t see the comparison before, now you do.
#4 This one will melt your heart: Jordan bought a house in LA’s San Fernando Valley where he currently lives with his parents.
#5 Not only is Jordan is actor and producer, he’s also an activist! He’s been known to work with projects that bring awareness to police brutality and lupus, which his mother suffers from. His work had him named one of TIME magazine’s “30 People Under 30 Changing the World.”
#6 When Sylvester Stallone gives you acting advice, apparently, you have to take it. The Rocky star instructed Jordan to “take it” while filming fight scenes for Creed, which resulted in the actor getting punched in the face for real. It’s a hard knock life, acting.
#7 Jordan is best known for his role as Erik “Killmonger” Stevens in Black Panther, which thankfully for us, was possible after turning down roles in two other superhero movies: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He has also expressed his initial desire to instead play the lead role of T’Challa in Black Panther.
#8 Speaking of Black Panther, a shirtless Jordan on screen had a fan clenching her teeth so hard that she broke her retainer. Jordan offered to pay for the replacement.
#9 The actor’s favourite actress? Meryl Streep! Referencing her performance in the film, Death Becomes Her (1992), Jordan told Vogue: “Meryl Streep does it for me. She makes it look so easy that it’s like, is she trying right now? It’s so effortless it’s ridiculous.”
# In an interview with Oprah.com, Jordan said he spends his free time catching up on Japanese anime. He shared, ““As a kid, I read comics and watched Dragon Ball Z, so I got really into that style of animation. Now when I have time, I binge-watch cartoons from overseas. When I’m finished, I feel like I fell down a rabbit hole.”
