In a celebration of Southeast Asian fashion being showcased on the big screen, LORD’s Tailor recently held a private screening of Crazy Rich Asians in the most glamorous manner, as the renowned atelier booked the largest Premiere Hall in GSC Signature for the guests. At the time of writing, it should already be known of the impact Crazy Rich Asians has had. Applauded for putting the spotlight on Asian culture, the movie has come down as one of the biggest talking points of the year.
Asian representation did not just stop at the cast and filming locations. In the midst of all the internationally renowned brands that were worn by the cast in the movie, Southeast Asian ateliers were also approached for the wardrobe of the movie, with LORD’s Tailor being one of the labels tasked in making Asia proud in the fashion scene.
The Private Movie Night played host to a slew of esteemed and distinguished guests, which included around 20 members of the cast as well as celebrities such as Dato’ Jimmy Choo, Datuk Chef Wan, Jeffrey Cheng and Datuk Kelvin Tan. Besides LORD’s Tailor, also joining the Private Movie Night was Carven Ong, the designer responsible for crafting the stunning water-resistant wedding gown in the movie.
A scene for the ages, the wedding gown worn by Araminta enhanced what was already a spectacular scene. Designed by Mary Vogt, head costume designer of Crazy Rich Asians, Ong and his team brought it to life, with Vogt claiming how the added touch of another designer brought a different dimension to the gown. “He did the patterns and the patterns are really beautifully made. He has a whole shop of 30 beaders and they did all the beading on it, which was great.”
LORD’s Tailor, Malaysia’s first true luxury menswear designer brand, selected around 20 suits to be adorned by the actors in various scenes of the movie, all of which were high fashion quality and crafted with opulence and style. Exemplifying Asian glamour, each style was meticulously selected with the main aim of reminding the audience worldwide of the extravagant design and creative originality that Asia has to offer.
