Throwing it back to the ’90s with a revival of the Venice bag.
The year was 1991: Michael Bolton released “When a Man Loves a Woman”, Fresh Prince of Bel Air was on TV, and Bonia had just launched the first Venice bag. Life was good.
The Venice bag tells a story of two star-crossed lovers on the Grand Canal in Venice, reflecting in its design the romanticism of the Italian city. So what better time to host its comeback than within Bonia’s latest Neu Romantic collection?
A comeback three decades in the making restored the Venice from Bonia’s archives for the collection. Dato Sri Daniel Chiang, Executive Director of Bonia shares, “We wanted to celebrate the brand’s legacy of craftsmanship and sophistication by reimagining one of our most iconic creations, the Venice.”

The revived bag is now crafted in calf split leather. It features a top handle, adjustable strap and a clasp adorned with a glossy locket in the shape of the Neu B, a new emblem designed in tribute of the Bonia’s heritage.
“This re-edition takes an iconic ‘90s favourite and reinvigorates it with a modern yet classic silhouette and a few, more contemporary details.”
Dato Sri Daniel Chiang shares his excitement for the Venice in an exclusive interview with Prestige Online.
The premier of the original Venice’s 1991 TV commercial is still one of the biggest milestones for the brand. For context, during the 90s, we were one of the few local companies doing large-scale television advertisements, and the iconic commercial was one of our biggest projects at the time. From the gondolas to the actors handpicked to film on-ground in Italy, we definitely pulled out all the stops to push Venice into the limelight.
While the vintage Venice was available in a classic black leather, the Venice Revival comes in a range of six colourways, including the classic black but also white, pink, red, and four elaborate patterns. During the design process of the new Venice, we wanted to showcase the new, reinvigorated Bonia. Our brand has evolved a lot since 1991, when the first Venice came out, and we wanted this bag to show our commitment to heritage and innovation. With the expanded colourways and patterns, the new Venice is truly for everyone.
The Venice Revival is a re-edition of one of our most iconic designs from the 90s. The shape is reminiscent of a locket, a symbol of eternal romance, and inspired the Italian city that lends its name to the bag. A huge component of the reimagined Venice bag is the update we made to several of its elements, including the clasp with our Neu B locket instead of the circular button that was featured on the vintage.
The Venice is made with Bonia’s expert leather crafting techniques that have been honed since 1974, when my father founded the brand. The process starts with the finest calf split leather, which is cut, stitched and formed into the shape of the Venice entirely by the hands of our skilled artisans. Every piece is then checked and tested; every bag that makes it into our boutiques meets Bonia’s standards of quality.
