ICYMI: Fashion news making headlines in August

In fashion, you keep up with trends, and the headlines. In case you missed it, here’s a recap of what the world of fashion delivered back in August:

Every month or so, a new bag takes the top spot in the chart of bags, if there were ever such a thing. At the moment, that honour goes to Cartier. The maison is writing a new chapter in its history with Guirlande de Cartier, leather-crafted handbags to the highest elegance. The bags, available in mini, small and medium in red, green, and black calfskin, take the form of eight clean-cut facets with a gold frieze. Taking a leaf from its own book, the same three colours were found on cases adorned with a golden wreath, reminiscent of Cartier’s signature box motifs in the 18th century.

Burberry’s Autumn/Winter 2019 campaign is quintessentially British, depicting the many facets of its culture and how they coexist. To translate that message, chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci turned once again to renowned photographers Danko Steiner and Nick Knight. The campaign shows off two sides of the coin; classic and refined, alongside looks more relaxed and free — referencing the collection itself which celebrates the contrasts and contradictions in British culture and weather. You’ll no doubt recognise some of the faces featured which include the likes of Gigi Hadid and Irina Shayk, as well as ran Summers, Sora Choi, He Cong and Alexis Chaparro.

Happen to be swinging by Tokyo this October? Come the 19th to the 1st of December in Shinagawa, Chanel’s “Mademoiselle Privé” will be making a stop to, following previous years in London, Seoul, Hong Kong and most recently, Shanghai in April. The exhibition dives into the three creative worlds of Chanel: Haute Couture, the legendary perfume N°5, and its High Jewellery. Expect a dreamlike immersion into the sources of Chanel’s creation, open to all.

Speaking of Japan, Onitsuka Tiger is celebrating its 70th anniversary. The brand is one of Japan’s oldest shoe companies and has become a cult favourite for sneakerheads worldwide. Back in July, Onitsuka Tiger announced its partnership with seven designers and this month they’ve unveiled the collection collaboration with Christian Dada. Key products include the brand’s legacy running shoe, ‘Rebilac Runner’, in Christian Dada’s signature shade of black, as well as a sporty jacket true to Onitsuka Tiger’s style met with Dada’s iconic loose silhouette.
