Happy Year of the Pig! In the Chinese zodiac and culture, pigs are the symbol of wealth. Their chubby faces and big ears are believed to be signs of good fortune too. And, pigs are also the inspiration behind Longchamp’s latest handbags.
Longchamp has teamed up once again with one of China’s most influential fashion bloggers, Tao Liang, fondly known as Mr. Bags. Although not a household name on our shores, Tao Liang’s impressive knowledge and love for luxury handbags has garnered him millions of “bagfuls” on China’s social media and chat networks, Weibo and WeChat.
Last year, the two revisited Longchamp’s iconic Le Pliage Cuir, Mr. Bags’ own favourite bag to travel with. The handbag aficionado makes Longchamp’s le Pliage Cuir his backdrop for creative tweaks once more. He conjures a series of bold white lines to create the image of a pig, with a curly tail on the front and a pair of pointed ears and two dots for eyes at the back, and hidden under the flap. The top handle bag with this design is available in black or pastel pink.
Adding to the collection are two bonus designs by Mr. Bags. The first, is a pouch with a zipped front pocket shaped like a pig’s snout. Then, there’s a very special design inspired by one of Longchamp Creative Director Sophie Delafontaine’s early reinterpretations of the house icon, Le Pliage Aquarium in 1998 which saw an illustration of a fish swimming inside the transparent bag. Translating the design into his own style and take, Mr. Bags has designed a pouch with a zipped front pocket shaped like a pig’s snout, along with a tote in transparent PVC with a pink, snout-shaped coin purse.
