What a match! Z Zegna has revealed their first ever face for the brand, none other than tennis star Alexander Zverev. The news — announced at the Pitti Uomo 94 menswear trade show in Florence, Italy — comes in conjunction with the theme of the Z Zegna’s spring 2019 collection: all things tennis, of course.
Zverev, the youngest player in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) top 20 and currently ranked number 3 in the world, captures exactly the powerful, stylish and sporty essence of the brand. Moreover, he’s only 21.
Z Zegna’s passion for tennis is reflected in the collection with designs interpretations of tennis courts. Think pastel shades and graphics, enhanced and contrasted with vivid saturated tones, as well as ultra-fine stretch nylon and maxi mesh. As far as sporty couture goes, this collaboration comes in first place.
The name of the game is the house’s revolutionary Techmerino fabric, with its resilient wool fibres and unique finishing technique. The product of which is a fabric that regulates heat and breathability. As if the perfect teammate, the collection also features pieces made with Techmerino Wash & Go; garments that hold their shape despite being washed again and again.
Some staples from the sporty collection include deconstructed jackets, bombers, raincoats and tailored drawstring pants. The pieces boast layered, lengthened and light silhouettes with soft, rounded volume. Tailoring is structured when it comes to fabrics but deconstructed in pieces like fitted blazers combining with widened shorts, and layered over techno logo leggings.
No outfit — not even in sports — is complete without the right accessories. With Z Zegna’s new collection, expect bold sun visors, tennis cuffs, and hair bands. Completing a collection well done is Zverev himself, who will take on the role of modelling pieces both on and off the tennis court.
