Richard Mille, which has redefined sports watches, is looking to do the same with ladies’ offerings.
In the first quarter of 2021, Richard Mille has brought us at least four feminine timepieces – each boasting its own uniqueness and each bringing a new innovation to the table. From revamping the recipe of white ceramic to introducing an extraordinary gem-set technique previously not seen on any Richard Mille timepiece, let’s explore what these timepieces have to offer.
RM 037 White Ceramic Automatic
As winter snow thaws in spring, the purity it comes to symbolise also fades with the seasonal shift. Richard Mille, however, forges the new and everlasting symbol of purity by combining white ceramic, mother-of-pearl and white gold in a voluptuous proportion. The aptly named RM 037 White Ceramic Automatic repels scratches, shocks and abrasion with ease while its ivory complexion is immune to wear and tear.
The result of an arduous process, the white ATZ ceramic that forms the bezel of the timepiece is created from aluminium oxide powder tubes injected at a high pressure of 2,000 bar, in order to strengthen the material while significantly reducing porosity. After which, the ATZ ceramic bezel is paired with an equally enchanting satin white gold caseband to safeguard the in-house CRMA1 automatic movement. Desirable but no less functional, the architecture of this timepiece is a nod to Richard Mille’s deep-rooted respect for women’s timepieces.
RM 07-01 Automatic Starry Night
With the latest RM 07-01 Automatic Starry Night, Richard Mille ventures out on a quest to distil the best of the universe down to a princely timepiece for your wrist, so you too can own a piece of the magnificent night sky and its constellation of twinkles. To evoke the darkness descending nightly, Carbon TPT is chosen to clothe the sylphlike case and bracelet while also contributing considerably to the timepiece’s weightlessness.
Acting as a sprinkle of stardust, 181 diamonds secured by hand-polished 5N red gold prongs fill the bezel and dial. Thanks to the exceptional hardness and resistance of Carbon TPT, the diamond-setting process is arduous and entails specialist CNC machines equipped with diamond bits in order to produce the mitraillage for setting. The prongs are produced separately before they are embedded with these brilliant stones of varying diameters, while at the centre of it all beats the in-house Calibre CRMA2, a skeletonised automatic movement with hours, minutes and a variable-geometry rotor.
Did you know that the bracelet – weighing just 29g – is offered exclusively for the women’s collection?
RM 07-01 Automatic with bi-material open-link bracelet
Richard Mille continues to pen a new narrative by utilising materials of opposite strengths and qualities, and weaving it into a seamless tapestry. The result is the RM 07-01 Automatic, now featuring an open-link bracelet. A twisting bracelet that gently grasps the wrist, the composition of the bracelet echoes that of the case – a duet of 5N red gold and Carbon TPT. An opulent metal known for its reassuring mass, red gold offers a sharp contrast to the virtually weightless Carbon TPT. The former’s warm glow balances the swirling pattern of the latter in an unlikely pairing that works harmoniously.

RM 07-01 Automatic in snow setting
Raising its game at ladies’ timepieces, Richard Mille introduces the snow-setting gem-set technique into its objects of desire. Though seemingly echoing a random sprinkling of gemstones, snow set is an incredibly complex technique that calls upon precision and dexterity as every gemstone of different sizes is weighed and chosen vigorously for its individual aspect and its relations with the immediate surrounding gemstones in order to present a seamless, coherent appearance for the final composition.
To demonstrate its savoir-faire, Richard Mille presents the snow-set RM 07-01 in white gold where diamonds of varying diameters, secured by svelte prongs, ranging from 0.5mm to 1.6mm vie for attention. A mesmerising bezel blanketed by diamonds frames a dial embedded with the precious stones, while the exquisite case of the timepiece is held together by gem-set case band pillars and open-link bracelet.
