Where to stock up on mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival on 1st October.

With a little less than a month until the Mid-Autumn Festival, hotels have been selling mooncakes, like hotcakes. It’s no wonder too — these small, delectable desserts come around only once a year, but everyone looks forward to them. With the introduction of halal versions of these mooncakes, now everyone can enjoy them.

More than just mooncakes, they also make amazing gifts to others. Every year feels like a contest to see who can design the most gorgeous gift boxes. It’s also sustainable as these packages can always be reused, whether as jewellery boxes, decorative pieces, or even a wine box.

But don’t take our word for it. Scroll down to see what most of the hotels in KL are offering this year.

Hilton Kuala Lumpur

This year, Hilton KL is taking on a ‘Royal Midnight’ theme for its Mid-Autumn Festival mooncakes. The box is a gorgeous midnight blue with silver clouds embroidered onto the fabric and a lunar medallion embedded onto it. Once you’ve consumed the mooncakes within, the gift box doubles as a pretty jewellery box.

The mooncakes are also worth shouting about. The hotel’s signature this year is the Bulgarian Blush (RM38 nett) that has a custard cream cheese with Bulgarian Rose petal jam and pine nuts filling, enveloped in a delicate baby pink snow skin. There’s also the Blue Moon (RM35 nett), another snow skin mooncake with amaretto lotus paste and Blueberry Cheese Feuillantine filling. Finally, who can resist a Musang King filling, found in the Heavenly Gold (RM56 nett) mooncake, a snow skin variant with Pure Premium Musang King Durian.

If you prefer the more traditional baked mooncakes, Hilton KL also has those — and they’re all halal. Prices of the mooncakes range from RM35 nett to RM56 nett. The Royal Midnight Midnight Traditional Baked and Royal Midnight Snow Skin gift boxes are priced at RM258 each.
