Fresh out of the oven: Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur has an exciting new afternoon tea special combining fashion with food.
Celest Thoi is one of Malaysia’s most beloved fashion designers, known for her bridal gowns and feminine creations. The designer was invited by the Japanese fine china brand, Noritake, to design an exclusive chinaware set available only in Malaysia. This would be the first time Noritake has commissioned a designer outside of Japan to work with them.
Celest’s collection for Noritake uses delicate flowers as symbols: Ranunculus for charm and attractiveness, Lupine for happiness, creativity, and imagination, and Hypericum for protection and rebirth.
The best way to ooh and ahh at the fine china collection? Over scrumptious afternoon tea treats by Pastry Chef Suzana Anwar and team, from the outdoor terrace at Mandarin Oriental overlooking the KLCC park.
“This collaboration is our way of celebrating local designers and presenting an elevated tea experience, not just with our selection of premium teas but having our afternoon tea presented on Japan’s foremost name in fine chinaware, Noritake,” said Christian Tavelli, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental.
Tea is served with desserts such as lychee rose macarons, Mochi snow skin raspberry cheesecake, Sakura blossom yogurt milk pudding and green tea scones. The sandwich selection includes Japanese-style chicken salad on green tea bread, egg sandwiches, and BBQ eel with soba noodles on a charcoal bun.
Noritake x Celest Thoi Afternoon Tea at Mandarin Oriental, KL is available from 2.30pm to 6pm (Monday to Saturday) and from 3pm to 6pm (Sunday) until 31 May 2021.
