Four elusive distilleries in Speyside, Scotland have distilled malts rarely made available in the past. Located in the northeast corner of Scottish highlands, Speyside is one of the most known regions in the world for single malts. Chivas Brothers are now launching these fifteen aged Single Malt Scotch whiskies, making the Secret Speyside collection the first of its kind from owners Pernod Ricard.
It’s often been said that single malts from Speyside make for the best gifts, so whether you’d like to add to your own collection or have a good gift at the ready, pick your poison. The curated selection includes 18 to 30-year old whiskies from distilliries with their own rich and unique history. The most interesting of which is Caperdonich, which isn’t even around today having taken down brick by brick after distilling its final single malt in 2002.
In fact, it’s the Caperdonich single malts that personally we like most and highly recommend to anyone looking for sophisticated smokiness to their drink. The selection includes peated and unpeated whiskies, with the peated 25-year-old only released in October.
Longmorn is also known as the pioneering distillery, designed by founder John Duff in 1894 where he even built a railway station to speed up the journey of facilitating supples. It’s been called ‘every distieller’s favourite apart from their own’, and if that entices you, you might equally enjoy the soft, creamy toffee notes from the collections 18, 23, and 25-year-old single malt blends.
Just as smooth with bursts of juicy summer fruit notes are the whiskies from Glen Keith. The pot stills at the Glen Keith distillery are taller than most, which gives the whiskies an extra ‘copper kiss’ in the distilling process resulting in a more complex, smooth taste.
Finally, there’s the Bares of Glenlivet, a remote distillery that sits on a mountain ridge. The three whiskies from here are aged 25, 27 and a cask strength 30-year-old, sipping smoothly with a balanced body made from the purest waters of a well in the Braes hills, and sweetened with tropical fruits.
The Secret Speyside Collection is available now exclusively in Global Travel Retail.
