The COVID-19 outbreak has wreaked havoc on a global scale but it has also pulled together the human race to fight as one against the Coronavirus. Case in point: Luxury fashion houses around the world such as Balenciaga, Saint Laurent and Gucci, to name a few, are banding together to produce face masks for the healthcare sector.

The latest to join the fight is Italian jeweller Bvlgari. Just a month after making a pledge to Spallanzani Hospital to buy a new state-of-the-art 3D high definition microscope, Bvlgari will be manufacturing several hundreds of bottles of hand cleansing gel sanitisers with its fragrances partner, ICR (Industrie Cosmetiche Riunite, Lodi). The cleansing gel sanitisers will be distributed to all medical facilities through the Protezione Civile (Italian Civil Protection Department).

Bvlgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin says in a statement: “I believe as a major economic actor and symbol of Italy, Bvlgari has a responsibility to contribute to the national effort to help prevent, fight and eradicate COVID-19. Thanks to our fragrances expertise we have been able to develop together with ICR a “hand cleansing gel with sanitiser” which will be manufactured in our Lodi Factory already making our high-end perfumes and hotels amenities. Aware of the difficult situation we are experiencing, we believe it is our duty to contribute with our know-how and production facilities.”

He adds, “Bvlgari has always believed in the ‘intelligent hands’ of those craftsmen and women who have made Italy the country of excellence in the luxury world. Combining creativity and quality. Today more than ever, with the production of Bvlgari hand cleansing gel with sanitiser in the ICR laboratories, those same hands become ‘brave’ and make themselves available to doctors, nurses, volunteers. The ‘innocent hands’ that are on the front lines every day fighting to save the lives of millions of people.”

LVMH, the parent company of Bvlgari has also earlier ordered millions of masks from a Chinese supplier to be distributed to France, Italy and Spain.
