The annual Singapore Food Festival is usually a buzzing affair with hungry diners hankering for new dishes, but this year, celebrations are going virtual.
In light of the COVID-19 situation and safe distancing regulations, Singapore Food Festival 2020 is bringing the merrymaking right to your doorstep.
It will be held over the last two weekends of August, and foodies will be able to place their orders from listed merchants on Shopee from 14 August to 13 September. The quantities of dishes available will differ according to the restaurant’s daily operational capacity.
This year, 25 food and beverage merchants are taking part in the 27th edition of the festival, including those from the likes of Michelin-starred Candlenut, and Tarte by Cheryl Koh.

Though most dishes are ready-to-consume, some that might not travel as well may require some physical participation from guests. These include the Damn Easy Hokkien Mee from Slake restaurant. Slake’s chef Tan Ming Huang shared that the dish can be put together by anyone “regardless of your cooking background or ability”.
To be fair, it even contains pre-charred noodles for a fair amount of wok hei flavour, and since the ingredients are also labelled with a number sequence, it made for a delicious easy-breezy 10-minute lunch for two.
Unlike previous years, all masterclasses by top chefs will be available for free, and participants can opt to purchase ingredient kits beforehand should they choose to cook alongside the chefs.
Learn a few tips and tricks from Dave Pynt from the one-Michelin star restaurant Burnt Ends, or even grab a lesson from Nutmeg & Clove on how to make your own cocktails.

Singapore Tourism Board elaborated that certain masterclasses will also offer slots for in-house interactions but will be subject to the Covid-19 safe management measures when they are held.
If you’re one for heritage, virtual tours of Tanjong Pagar, Chinatown, Katong and Joo Chiat hosted by actor Chua Enlai will be held for participants to “discover stories behind popular eats in the area, (and) tales behind its heritage food businesses.” A limited number of slots for physical tours will be available.
As for merchandise, guests can get a hold of items like the limited-edition threads from Uniqlo and exclusive beer flavours from Singapore brewery Brewerkz.
