On 31 May 2019, Fendi brought its Fall/Winter 2019 menswear and womenswear collections (first staged in Milan earlier this year) to Shanghai, China. This first-ever joint fashion show — held at Powerlong Museum, a 23,000sqm space dedicated to Chinese and international contemporary art — was also a recognition of Karl Lagerfeld’s contribution to Fendi. The menswear collection — first seen on 14 January in Milan — features strong Lagerfeld influences, from the rigorous cut of a tailored shoulder to the palette of sharp blacks and classic neutrals with a metallic sheen. Other highlights include zippers bifurcate sleeves, knits or coat backs, and silk organza against leather and fur. Above it all, this special collab is also creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi’s way of recognising the lifetime creative relationship between Fendi and Lagerfeld.
The womenswear collection was Lagerfeld’s swan song at Fendi, where he started designing for the Italian house in 1965 until his demise earlier this year.
This special runway edition also included 15 never-seen-before looks that were created exclusively for this special occasion.
