Generous giving has seen Singapore’s arts scene grow in vibrancy over the years, and such philanthropy was recognised at the Patron of the Arts Awards ceremony and dinner held at Equarius Hotel in July. The National Arts Council (NAC) honoured 383 long-standing and first-time patrons – 282 individuals and 101 corporations – for their contributions in cash and kind in 2018 totalling $57.4 million. Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, gave out the awards at the 36th edition of the ceremony, which was themed Metamorphosis to reflect the progress of the local arts scene. “We aim to sustain and deepen this commitment of giving to the arts through initiatives such as the Cultural Matching Fund, which matches dollar for dollar all private cash donations to the arts and heritage sector. By garnering greater private support and working closely with the arts community, we hope to inspire our people and connect our communities,” said Rosa Daniel, CEO of NAC.
