The Singapore Committee for UN Women’s annual SNOW (Say No to the Oppression of Women) Gala aims to empower girls and women in Singapore and across the region. Held at the Island Ballroom at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, this year’s snow fundraiser was themed “Celebrating 200 Years of Amazing Women”, in a nod to Singapore’s bicentennial and the long line of women in our nation’s modern history who led the fight for gender parity.
The event was graced by Sun Xueling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs and National Development, who highlighted that while there are now more women in senior management positions, just 9 percent of businesses have a female CEO in Singapore.
Silent and live auctions saw guests bid for travel experiences that included a three-night stay in a Waterfall Tent at Cambodia’s Shinta Mani Wild and a three-night stay in a glass igloo at Finland’s Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, artworks, fashion apparel and bags, jewellery, and hosted dinners. Harpreet Bedi was the winner of a photo shoot donated by Prestige Singapore in the silent auction. Twenty percent of the net proceeds raised will go towards helping refugees in Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, with the remaining funding local initiatives and operations.
