King’s Landing has been desolated, the Iron Throne fluxed by dragon fire, and Jon Snow is a Targaryen. But, backing up to one April night before the beginning of the end, the Theatre Ball by the Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT), in its 26th edition, morphed into the Game of Thrones Ball (sponsored by HBO Asia) ahead of the show’s final season. And a slew of Daenerys doppelgängers, White Walkers, royals, nobles and knights caroused together under one roof, beneath the flags of allied and rival Houses. The fiercest battle was for photo ops on the massive Iron Throne on stage, with Capitol Theatre having been transformed into a medieval world by events extraordinaire Olga Iserlis. Dinner was a regal feast, from the platters of starters passed down the tables, to the cornucopia of desserts unveiled on stage at the night’s end. The gala and auction of various experiences, led by SRT’s artistic director Gaurav Kripalani, raised funds for SRT’s community and educational programmes.
