May 2018 was truly a month of love. There was that epic royal wedding ceremony of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. And as if it was fated, we rolled out our annual Prestige Weddings 2018 supplement too, filled with wedding ideas and inspirations plus plenty of matrimonial tales.
1. Engagement of Nicolette Techawatanasuk and Christopher Lin
Mum-owner of a #dog named Zion, Nicolette Techawatanasuk’s family is soon expanding again. The lucky lady shared on her Instagram (@nicolettemt) that she’s just gotten engaged. She posted a shot of her glistening new ring against the equally shimmering waters of Lake Kawaguchiko in Japan.
Christopher Lin, Nicolette’s suitor, first unexpectedly yet funnily “popped the question” in the couple’s ryokan hotel, with a clear view of Mount Fuji. Nicolette writes to us, saying “Chris was so nervous that he ended up blurting out ‘So, are you ready to get proposed to?’ with a wide toothy grin on his face.”
Though not as romantic as she would have imagined a proposal to be, she confesses it was quintessentially Chris — a “goofy” individual, according to Nicolette. “That made the memory of that moment so perfect. But I did not answer ‘yes’ to that proposal of course. He later took me on a walk around Mount Fuji and proposed properly underneath a Sakura tree.”
The engagement ring presented to Nicolette was an exquisite 2.5-ct cushion-cut diamond ring made by a private jeweller. The main sparkly stone is hugged by a halo of diamonds and set on an eternity band with more diamonds.

2. Wedding of Jiyun Ally Ouh and Ferdinand Sutanto
A few days after Nicolette and Chris’ heartfelt engagement, they attended their friends’ Bali-beautiful wedding ceremony. Ferdinand Sutanto, ex-consultant and the current CEO/co-founder of Jakarta’s tech start-up Club Alacarte, and Jiyun Ally Ouh, a dentist working at Camden Medical Centre in Singapore, first met in New York City while studying in the US through a mutual friend. They got engaged last year.
As seen on Ally’s Instagram (@jiyunouh), her May 2018 marriage took place on a perfect, sunny day at Amankila in Manggis, Bali. The bride wore a Marchesa wedding gown as she said “I do” surrounded by friends, families and multiple bodies of water. Ally tells us, “We loved the venue and its three-tiered pool.” With a wedding hashtag as cheeky as #ferdinally, the #gatecrashing practices before the nuptials was one of impressive feats, fully utilising the pools as well.
Having the whole resort to themselves was definitely a plus point. “We rented out the whole resort so we were able to do a lot, such as a surprise fireworks presentation planned by the groom at the end of our first dance,” says Ally.
Other highlights included a traditional Kecak dance performance during the Friday dinner, held before the matrimony ceremony the next evening; having giant floaties for the pool afterparty, and setting up an outdoor theatre at the couple’s suite for the UEFA championship league final game as an extended afterparty for all the soccer fans.
Asked if she has any tips for smooth wedding planning, Ally shares, “Make sure to have fun with your significant other on the actual day of the wedding! Get lots of rest before and after the wedding before going back to work. Everyone is there to celebrate for you, so don’t worry if things go wrong. Only you will notice!”
3. Vow Renewal of Tjin Lee and John Lim
Bali seems to be the ultimate backdrop for a fairy-tale occasion. Tjin Lee and John Lim tied the knot ten years ago here and to commemorate their decade-long devotion to each other, the couple ventured back to Bali to renew their vows — this time witnessed by their two boys: Tyler and Jake.

Tjin tells us, “We planned it as a really intimate celebration as we wanted the kids to be part of the renewal of our vows. That was the real reason, and best part, of the celebration, to be able to have the boys with us — Tyler was to be the best man and Jake was the ring bearer!”
The pastel-perfect ceremony was tinted with a romantic glow as it was held during sunset at Villa Atas Ombak. Tjin wore a lovely one-shoulder white gown with a sash from JessicaCindy while John donned a blush-pink jacket to match the bouquet of pink roses his wife was holding. The couple exchanged gold wedding Chaumet bands. Tjin also accessorised with a pair of Chaumet Liens earrings.
However, Tjin would share that her favourite part of that evening was that nothing went according to plan. Read her candid account on what really happened in her Instagram posts below. She also shares in one of her posts that “marriage is about resilience”.
