A Mother’s Day special from our friends
Hasn’t mum always been there through the ups and downs of life? She will never fail to be your loudest cheerleader, loyal protector and favourite cook. Here, Johannes Christian See, Nada Jumabhoy, Samuel Tan and Louisa Ong share with us heartfelt tribute to their mothers.
JOHANNES CHRISTIAN SEE FOR MARIA SEE
All mothers give birth to children, but not my mum. She gave birth to three Legends.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Love from one of your three Legends,
NADA JUMABHOY FOR MANIZA JUMABHOY
When I was small you held my hand
You guided me through this vast land
Now I am grown and you seem so small
I help you navigate the Internet, technology, somehow I know it all!
But do I, really? I sometimes wonder
When in doubt and when clouds burst asunder
I still run back to you to ask
For your words of wisdom and if perchance
You would know what to do with this and that
And what on earth do I do in New York if I have a rat in my flat!
Your experience, your guidance and your goodness never seem in short supply
Invaluable to me, in life you are my true ally
And though I may not say it often enough, I often marvel at how you are so tough
So thank you mama for all that you are
You are my best friend, my role model, you are my North Star!
SAMUEL TAN FOR RENEE TAN
Thank you for your constant love through the seasons of my life; steadfastly navigating the oft-seemingly paradoxical demands of parenthood, and always generously giving your time and energies.
For staying in my face when it would have been easier to just let me be.
For loving me sternly when to simply indulge me would have demanded far less.
For consciously trusting me to figure out my own way and always offering me heartfelt counsel – then lovingly choosing to believe I listened even if my actions might appear otherwise.
For always sharing your walk in faith; with strength, conviction and also vulnerability and surrender.
For fiercely and unreservedly loving my two precious girls.
These memories that I cherish all bear your indelible mark, and they are precious and irreplaceable to me.
Thank you for everything, Mummy.
I love you and celebrate having you as my mother not just today, but every day.
Happy Mother’s Day.
LOUISA ONG FOR FANTY SOENARDY
I’m sure the first word that comes to people’s minds when they think about you is “adventure”. I’m no exception. You’re an example of courage, faith and love. Honestly, that’s what I love most about you. I can’t think of anyone who would be more than willing to fly from Singapore to the US just to make sure I wasn’t spending Thanksgiving alone. You do the craziest things for me, but like you said before, you’re willing to sacrifice more than I thought humanly possible for the happiness of your children.
Thank you for loving both Dillon and me unconditionally and fearlessly. In a span of two weeks, you watched Dillon and I fall sick in the US and even though you were feeling tired from the jet lag, you tirelessly looked after us and nursed us back to health. I’ve never said it, but I’m thankful for all the times you were here for me whenever I needed you. You’ve showed me that family are the only ones who will be beside me through thick and thin, and these little moments you spent by my side have shaped me to become the person I am today.
I wish I can quickly graduate and fulfil your dream of exploring the world! The key point is: I’d do anything to make you the happiest mum alive because that’s what you’ve done for me your whole life.
Love you always, Louisa
