Who are your favourite artists and why?
Fell in love with Monet after seeing Water Lilly at the Louvre Paris – the dreamy colours and flowers are mesmerising and inspirational.
What’s keeping you sane during lockdown?
The tranquility of nature in Hong Kong beautiful hiking trails to beaches, chorus of singing birds, yellow butterflies, the vivid blues of the ocean and clouds, shades of green, beautiful flowers. Feeling the cool breeze at the top of the mountain. And searching for cascading water falls.
Which travel destinations are you missing the most and why?
Italy the heart of fashion, art, culture, fashion, the cities architecture are stunning as the hills of Tuscany, and the beaches of the Amalfi Coast. Ubud in Bali such tranquil and lush green place, people are full of wide smiles, gratitude of the small everyday things.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Trust your instincts, stay true to yourself, live your dream.
What’s the first job you ever had?
Helping out at my father’s doctor’s General Practice.
What was the last gift you gave someone?
I gifted a piece of my jewellery – a Bamboo Cuff – for a children’s charity.
What would your perfect Sunday be like?
Hiking and walking meditation at the Big Buddha.
What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
Anthony de Marco, the Luxury Jewellery writer for Forbes said that “ I occasionally feature the designers who show promise and Mayuri fits the bill.”
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?
One of the many inspirational women trailblazing women.. Coco Chanel, Queen Ranier of Jordan, Michelle Obama, Ruth Baider Ginsburg.
Tell us something that not many people know about you?
I’m learning Italian.
Apart from music, what else sparks your creative mind?
Walking sparks my creativity. And the many fashion and jewellery bibles I have!
What’s been your career highlight so far?
Being featured in Vogue Arabia, and Forbes. Retailing with Harvey Nichols and Kabiri Fine Jewellery Boutique in Marylebone in London, a favourite with celebrities.
How do you like to end your day?
Well if it’s a Friday evening then definitely sipping on dry martinis at the China Club in Hong Kong. Its art deco style transports you to the yester years of glamorous old Hong Kong.
If your life was a movie, what would be your title song?
‘Diamonds are Forever’ by Shirley Bassey.
If you could wear one outfit for life, what would it be?
Always a One shoulder little black dress.
