The invite might have read “Trina’s Birthday Party”, but the birthday girl herself had something else in mind: A celebration of sisterhood.
In fact, more than with just full tummies, fond memories and party favours, each of Trina Liang-Lin’s 30 girlfriends found themselves leaving luncheon venue, St Regis Hotel, as founding members of GenXWomen.
A long-time community advocate who presently serves as President of the Singapore Committee for UN Women, Liang-Lin had leveraged on the occasion to rope in her friends into what she envisions as a “supportive group of women”, which would gather once a quarter “to share perspectives on issues faced by the Gen X”.
Among the party-goers who were corralled into the informal grouping are doctors, lawyers, bankers, broadcasters, PR specialists and entrepreneurs.
Prior to sitting down for a delectable multi-course luncheon, the ladies previewed the latest Cheongsam 2018 Collection from womenswear label Ong Shunmugam, which donated 10 percent of sales proceeds to the Singapore Committee for UN Women.
