Betty Chen celebrated her 93rd birthday at the Tanglin Club with the help of nine of her friends — Lotus Soh, Genevieve Peggy Jeffs, Jacelyn Lai, Violet Yeo, Christine Lim, Esther Ho, Frances Low, Lai Yong Lawrence and Angela Loh — who got together to organise this splendid extravaganza.The planning took about six months, and a total of 93 guests were invited for this luncheon. The celebration was made even more special with his grandson Michael Chen showing off his prowess at the piano. That’s not all. Good friends Lotus Soh and Noor Quek also serenaded the guests with a repertoire of songs, filling the room with music, laughter and well-wishes.
Guests were treated to a specially curated menu and every guest went home with a gorgeous three-way pocket mirror, specially selected by Betty.
Now a life patron of the Chinese Women’s Association (CWA), Betty served 26 terms as its president and helped raised millions of dollars for charities, most notably funding and managing Henderson Senior Citizens’ Home for 32 years.
