‘Tis the season of big Indian weddings. First came the nuptials of Bollywood A-lister couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s in Italy’s Lake Como. Then came Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ headline-making fairytale wedding in Jodhpur. And now joining these ranks — or toppling all of them— is Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal’s big day.

For the uninitiated, the two are the scions of billionaire families; Ambani, in particular, is the daughter of India’s richest man: Industrialist Mukesh Ambani. Held at the prestigious 27-storey palace Ambani Residence in Mumbai, the ceremony was attended by Bollywood stars, international politicians and India’s who’s who.
Leading up to the wedding were a host of lavish pre-wedding celebrations, including a party at a 16th century palace in Udaipur. Beyonce specially flew in for a 45-minute concert, taking the stage with her band and dazzling guests with her multiple outfit changes such as a bejewelled number by Indian designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, as well as a gold bodysuit.
The wedding day itself was a smaller affair with an estimated 600 guests in attendance. On the high-profile guest list were former US secretary Hilary Clinton, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, and Bollywood royalty Shah Rukh Khan, the Bachchan family and film director Karan Johar.
The couple wore matching ensembles — the Ivy League-educated bride made a sentimental statement with her gold lehenga.
She paired the hand embroidered, sequin and crystal encrusted creation by Indian couturier Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla with her mother’s wedding sari draped as a duppatta (a shawl-like scarf) on her shoulder.
While little has been revealed so far about the wedding, reports have speculated that wedding festivities amounted to $100 million — an impressive figure when one considers that Princess Diana’s big day cost an estimated US$110 million dollars.
