ICYMI, Prestige Singapore has turned 18. And what better way to celebrate than with the whole extended family! So of course a bash was to be had, with our annual Ball. The Prestige Ball 2018 as much feted the dedicated team that nurtured the magazine from its inception as it did our readers, partners and dear friends who have seen Prestige grow up and come into its own over the years.
Our 18th Anniversary Ball was laced with Asian fusion elements, reflecting the magazine’s proud founding in Singapore and establishment in the region, but cosmopolitan appeal. Hints of Asian flavours carried through from the Ball invitation card’s etched cover that melded Art Deco with the geometry of Chinese screens, to the décor of the Grand Ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore and five-course menu.
As always, the reception buzzed with air kisses, lots of catching up with old friends and meeting of new, and selfies after mandatory stops at the photo walls. Glasses clinked as the oft complimented Pierre Paillard Les Parcelles Bouzy Grand Cruz champagne flowed. Black tie or not, there was no room for stuffiness as guests gamely hammed it up with props at the Sulwhasoo photo booth and struck their best poses at the feature walls. We have the #PrestigeBall2018 photos to prove it!
Taking the stage to welcome everyone before dinner commenced, Managing Director of the print publishing unit of Burda Singapore Lena Kwek thanked everyone for supporting Prestige Singapore through the years, and shared plans for an exciting new look to the magazine and website soon to be unveiled.
A menu of Epicurean Delights followed, honed by Executive Chef Massimo Pasquarelli and accompanied by Sartori Soave Classico and The Great Flyte Cabernet Sauvignon provided by M@dhatters & Co. Punctuating the dinner were the presenting of the night’s awards and an enthralling entertainment act.
The Prestige Award, in recognition of noteworthy changemakers, went to Julian and Sandra Chang. Bons vivants and yacht owners familiar with the high life on the high seas, they have led the call for ocean conservation through SeaKeepers Asia, which Julian presides. The couple received Michael Kors gift vouchers worth $20,000, presented by Ian Lim of the Valiram Group, as well as a 10-night stay at any Small Luxury Hotels of the World, presented by Mark Wong.
Guests were later entertained by a medley of catwalk, dance and live instrumental and song performances set against a video installation and stunning light show that included undulating kinetic balls, to music re-arranged by Kenn C and choreography by Lisa Kegan.
The evening culminated with the presentation of the much-anticipated Most Stylish Awards going to a gentleman, 10 ladies and couple, who received delightful prizes from Remy Cointreau, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and bouquets from Roses Only.
A “Sweet Surprise” topped off the evening as guests discovered a dessert bar in the foyer, where artfully crafted chocolates with tangy fruit fillings and more berry-topped confections — ending the meal with fruit as to make all Asian mothers proud. Post-dinner nightcaps came courtesy of the outdoor Bruichladdich Whiskey Bar and The Botanist Gin Bar, accompanied by choice Davidoff cigars and ebullient conversation.
No good party has guests leaving empty handed. As goodnight kisses were exchanged, we put gift bags of premium beautifiers from Sulwhasoo and Leonica K in their hands, along with a gift box of Godiva chocolates and our celebratory anniversary September issue of Prestige Singapore where our friends share some downright heartwarming memories.
