39, Eye Surgeon, Ophthalmologist and Medical Director at Asia Retina Eye Surgery Centre
Claudine is one of the few doctors with multiple international fellowships in the subspecialty fields of both Medical Retina and Vitreoretinal Surgery. Motivated to improve public awareness on eye health, Claudine developed the Asia Retina app and established the social enterprise, Eye Quotient (EyeQ), in the last two years. Singapore’s first eye-health-related app, Asia Retina allows users to perform various simple self-assessment tests. The free app also holds personal medical records for all Asia Retina patients and can send reminder alerts on when to apply their eye drops. “We’ll be developing the app further to include chatbot and telemedicine functions, which will be really useful in the current social distancing situation.”
The mum of two also founded EyeQ to make eye care accessible to communities-at- large. It conducts private eye consultations for corporate employees, and for every such consultation performed, EyeQ provides the equivalent eye screening to underprivileged groups in Singapore for free. After multiple humanitarian trips to Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Nepal and Indonesia in 2018 and 2019, Claudine launched Eye Care Without Borders, a charitable initiative that recruits volunteer optometrists to provide free eye care to local or rural communities in developing countries.
