The Singaporean half of intercontinental design duo Lanzavecchia + Wai has been on a whirlwind of success since his post graduate degree in Design from the famed Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where he met his Italian partner Francesca Lanzavecchia.
Not just designers, but also researchers, engineers, craftsmen and engaging storytellers, the pair produce limited edition pieces for galleries and museums, products and furniture for major companies and have received commissions from Alcantara, Samsonite and Mercedes-Benz.
Showered with international attention and accolades, they were named by Newsweek as one of the Designers of the Future in 2012, and were shortlisted this year for the Life-Enhancer of the Year award by Wallpaper*. Although both were pleased and honoured, Wai reveals that such recognitions only “reaffirm that we are on the right way, that our efforts have been worthwhile”. When asked what he considers to be his greatest accomplishment, Wai’s succinct’s reply is: “The next one.”
