To say that Andrew Li is a busy man would be a massive understatement. As CEO of Zouk Group, he leads a team of about 150 people across four countries – Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. He also oversees the business’s expansion plans, operations, finances, business development and marketing.
Hospitality was a natural next step for Li after graduating from university. “I enjoy interacting with people, travelling and different experiences, as well as having to solve problems on the fly,” he says.
In 2012, Li found himself in Hong Kong, taking on the role as COO of the Privé Group, a leading nightlife and F&B entity, where he helped launch around 10 F&B establishments during his tenure. Li became CEO of the Zouk Group in 2017, about two years after Genting Hong Kong acquired one of the most popular clubs in Singapore. And although Zouk is synonymous with the iconic clubbing institution, the Group has since expanded its portfolio to include bars and restaurants, and will, in the near future, have hotels.
“There’s a big project underway at Resorts World Las Vegas,” says Li. “For the first phase, we’ll roll out clubs, restaurants and bars, which are currently under construction. These would be the perfect test bed for hotels, which is the second phase of the project. Having a place where people can eat, visit a bar, party and sleep would really complete the whole journey.”
To take on the nightlife industry requires stamina in spades – something Li works on in his downtime. “I do triathlons to unwind,” he shares. “Training helps me find balance in my life, and exercising for an hour in the morning before work keeps me disciplined.”
