The winner of the latest edition of UOB Painting of the Year (Singapore), Established Artist Category is Khairulddin bin Abdul Wahab. An alumnus of LASALLE College of the Arts, Khairulddin’s solo exhibition Island Story is inspired by Singapore’s early history, together with folklore and myths. Chronicling the journey of Toah and Chinese explorer Zheng He, the series of acrylic on canvas paintings is also a nod to Singapore’s bicentennial.

More than just a leading bank in Singapore and Asia, United Overseas Bank (UOB) has long played a supportive and active role towards the arts community. For the last 40 years, UOB Painting of the Year — the bank’s flagship art competition — has put a new generation of Southeast Asian artists on the world map.
Wee Ee Cheong, deputy chairman and CEO of United Overseas Bank says: “It is our steadfast belief that art connects people, enriches lives and strengthens bonds. UOB has consistently invested in creating value for our communities in the areas of art, children and education.”
He continues: “In Singapore, we expanded our Artist’s Conversation programme to draw in more than 900 students from art institutions and schools that offer the Art Elective programme and the Enhanced Art programme. Through our UOB Painting of the Year alumni artists sharing their experiences and artistic process with aspiring artists, these sessions aim to inspire and to encourage the young talent to pursue their passion in this field.”

The exhibition is now on at UOB Art Gallery, UOB Plaza 1. Till 5 September. 9am to 6.30pm, daily.
