Everybody loves a good online quiz. From the outrageous “Pick A Dog And We’ll Reveal Your Deepest Fear” to the quite handy, fairly funny way to find out if you’re colour blind or not, “Only People With Perfect Colour Vision Can Read These Words” test.
Luggage-leviathan Samsonite has thus jumped on the boredom-banishing bandwagon. The brand’s newest interactive quiz is titled “Discover Your Purse-sonality”, a way to “unravel why you gravitate towards certain styles and the mystery of what your bag says about your personality.”
Helping to steer you to your personality prototype is Singaporean illustrator Lydia Yang. From now until May 27, 2018, her pastel-power designs follow test-takers through the five fundamental personality questions, that will ultimately reveal if you are a Classic Mademoiselle, Stylish Globetrotter, Preppy Sweetheart or Rock-‘n’-Roll Fashionista.
We talk to Lydia Yang, more popularly known by her moniker Oak & Bindi, to find out more about her works. She’s no stranger to collaborating with renowned brands. Before Samsonite, Lydia Yang showcased her design talent for W Hotels Singapore, Shinola Journals and Guess, to name a few.
What got you into visual design?
Lydia Yang: I was always distracted with being creative growing up and really got into design and illustrating during and after getting my Diploma in Visual Communication.
What inspires you most when you illustrate?
I usually enjoy building the illustration itself, getting to create a new form and a new perspective of what I’m tasked or inspired to draw.
Also, having been able to work with various brands, being able to bring my personal style to the table, knowing that it adds value to a campaign or a brand excites me and always keeps me motivated to do more and to do better.
Your designs are girly yet edgy. Would you agree?
I’ve been told! I believe it’s a Gemini thing.
What social causes do you support?
I love and support the notion of gender equality as much as I love and support female collectives and creatives around the world.

What is your purse-sonality?
Do you reflect on where your designs may end up?
I hardly think about it as I am conscious of the boundaries I set for my work and where it goes, but otherwise, anything outside of my control could always lead to opportunities and open future doors.
