If you were walking along Orchard Road yesterday along the ION Orchard-Ngee Ann City stretch, you probably saw the Lexus Pop-Up showcase in front of Wisma Atria. And here’s why it was there. Lexus revealed its first-ever Lexus LC to a group of media over lunch, with an exclusive launch later in the evening for invited guests. But even if you missed it, you can still catch the showcase from August 4-7 for a peek at the car.
The LC, which stands for Luxury Coupe, represents a shift in the Japanese automaker’s engineering and design direction, going forward with a new tagline of “Experience Amazing”. And with the new model line, two powertrains will be made available, comprising the LC500, a five-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, and the LC Hybrid, a smaller, 3.5-litre V6 engine fitted with the brand’s Multi Stage Hybrid System.
Inspired by the LF-LC concept that was debuted at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the LC was developed as the answer to questions directed at Lexus on whether the LF-LC would become a production model. With the LC, it has been designed to offer customers a more refined driving experience. The LC500 delivers a maximum of 470bhp and 540Nm of torque, while its hybrid sibling offers 353 horses and 348Nm of torque. Both cars have also been engineered to sprint from naught to illegal (100km/h, if you’re wondering) in 4.7 and 5.0 seconds respectively.
And it has already garnered fans in the market. We’re told at the launch that some owners of the limited edition Lexus LFA supercar in Singapore have indicated their interest in this sports coupe.
“As the brand is evolving in developing its unique design, driving dynamics and brand image, it allows us to clearly define our brand position that reflects our strengths and captures the essence of what makes us unique,” says Michael Woo, marketing director for Asia at Inchcape Singapore, the official automotive distributor and retailer for Lexus in Singapore. “Resonating these values, the Lexus LC will be the first in the line-up to spearhead the new brand transformation.”
So if you’re a petrol head or a fan of Lexus or just curious anyway, make your way down to our world-famous shopping belt to get up close with the new LC.
