Social distancing has become the norm, but with it comes all the trappings of isolation.
Humans are social, tactile creatures, and by now, many of us have noticed the implications of human touch – or rather, the lack thereof. Which is why, when we got our hands on Samsung’s latest mobile phones, we thought to share the hype a little differently this time: not with in-depth reviews raving about its specs, but by gathering a few of our friends for an intimate, in-person playdate. After all, the new Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Galaxy Z Fold2 5G are not static, what-you-see-is-what-you-get devices.
For the uninitiated, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Galaxy Z Fold2 5G are transformable, which is revolutionary considering the designs of smartphones these days. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G, the latest addition to Samsung’s 5G-enabled offerings, gives new meaning to the term ‘compact’ with a notch-less folding screen that delivers 6.7-inches of incredible visuals when opened. It also holds its position at multiple angles for plenty of hands-free opportunities. The Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, on the other hand, is basically a foldable tablet that opens to what is the largest screen in the smartphone market. Now imagine what it’s like to watch movies, play games, multi-task and actually get work done on this mini computer, without the bulkiness.
We could go on, but writing about these shiny new gadgets feels like an injustice; they deserved to be experienced. And so our friends did at Goodwood Park Hotel’s Alma by Juan Amador, over a special four-course caviar-themed menu. As we introduced our guests to the wonders of Samsung’s new machines, Chef Haikal Johari treated us to a medley of caviar varieties, starting with the Russian Oscietra, served with potatoes, parsley and blinis and accompanied by champagne. Next came the Russian Hybrid Caviar with Anjou pear, creme fresh and Japanese Sume ika with a glass of sauvignon blanc, followed by the Russian Kaluga Caviar with fish velouté, chervil root and Japanese blackthroat seaperch, paired with a bright Californian chardonnay.
Caviar for dessert? Chef Johari says ‘why not’ with the delightful Amur Caviar, which arrived together with yuzu, Japanese mikan and honey pineapple. We finished strong with the Suntory Whisky Toki, and some newfound lust for Samsung’s phones from the future.
