Keeping with tradition, A. Lange & Söhne returned to the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in January with more interesting novelties that showcase what they do best: Effortlessly elegant and sophisticated timepieces bearing innovative complications and beautiful haute horlogerie finishing.
Undoubtedly, the highlight piece this year was the Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar “Terraluna”, a unique and patent-pending orbital moon-phase that depicts the constellation of the earth, moon and sun. It also indicates day or night as well as the different time zones in the Northern hemisphere. Its remarkable 14 days of power gathered from the twin mainspring barrels is managed efficiently by a constant-force escapement that dispenses a precise amount of energy to the balance every ten seconds. The result is a highly accurate watch from day one to day 14.
Another remarkable piece showcased was the 1815 Tourbillon that premieres a combination of A. Lange & Söhne’s two patents: The zero reset function (1997) and stop seconds mechanism (2008). A gentle tug of the crown activates a lever mechanism which brakes the balance inside the tourbillon cage instantly, and resets the second hand to zero position. The result is a watch that can be easily synchronised with another watch or a time signal.
