You’ve seen the horrific images. Herds of gentle giants hunted and killed, just for their tusks. The poaching plague continues to endanger Africa’s elephants and one approach companies can pursue to stop this vicious act is by way of meaningful and impactful collaborations. Loewe has therefore teamed up with Knot On My Planet, a campaign that draws the fashion industry to one goal: Help provide a secure future for elephants by raising funds for the Elephant Crisis Fund. And the luxury fashion brand’s most recognisable and much-loved design, the little Loewe Elephant Bag, is without question the perfect canvas and style icon to front such a project.

To further push purposeful craftsmanship, the brand and pachyderm-shaped bag travelled to Kenya to have women from the Samburu Workshop put their own unique stamp on each piece. Handcrafted beadwork are now featured on the limited run of the Tan Elephant Mini Bags, with colourful dangly charms that look both beatnik and timeless.
Global Ambassador for Knot On My Planet, Doutzen Kroes, said in a video interview: “I think luxury brands are tapping into the fact that customers want to buy luxury items, and give back at the same time. And this is something Loewe understands.”
The Samburu people have long lived among elephants and have been integral in helping to protect these majestic mammals, together with the Kenya-based elephant research and conservation organisation, Save The Elephants. The community continues to do so today with Loewe. The Loewe Elephant Bag itself is expertly handcrafted from calfskin, folded into the shape of an elephant. This already playful mini crossbody comes with a long trunk and dot-perforated “eyes” but now, the body is further clothed in blankets of safety pins holding the cascades of decorative beadings. Due to the nature of the by-hand-only craft, each bag may vary in look.
Loewe is donating 100 percent of its proceeds of the one-of-a-kind Knot On My Planet Tan Calf Elephant Mini Bags to the Elephant Crisis Fund, a joint initiative between Save The Elephants and the Wildlife Conservation Network, in partnership with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. The Elephant Crisis Fund runs a full donation model with every dollar raised directly deployed to elephant conservation projects in the most critical areas of Africa and Asia.
