While not quite as exclusive and inaccessible as bespoke designs, customisation is the new hot word in luxury these days. After all, who doesn’t want to own something that they had a hand in designing? Recognising this need to offer its clients an opportunity for self-expression, Bulgari jumps on the customisation bandwagon with the new Serpenti watches.
Revered as an important symbol and icon of the house, the serpent has been a recurring motif in Bulgari’s Serpenti creations for the last 70 years. Presented as ravishing high jewellery pieces and statement timepieces, this year’s new Serpenti watches take on a particularly youthful guise: It is offered with a delicately sized 27mm case (in different materials with or without diamonds) complete with a double wrap around strap made of karung leather in a myriad of vibrant colours. But its best feature? The watch is entirely customisable — up to 312 different variants to be exact.
The customisation design process can be done easily via a dedicated app that is available at selected Bulgari flagship boutiques, such as the one at Ngee Ann City in Singapore. With just a few taps on the tablet’s screen, one can easily create her dream Serpenti watch by selecting the case (steel or pink gold), dial ( black, red, green or white –mother-of-pearl, finely lacquered or with sunburst guilloche), gem-setting, strap, as well as an engraving of three letters of her choice on the caseback.
Each watch comes with a pair of double wrap around straps —in karung and calf leather— that are easily interchangeable via an extremely practical quick change spring loaded fastening system. The process can be done in seconds without the need for any tools and additional straps in a plethora of fascinating colours are also available in Bulgari boutiques, where the new Serpenti will be available from May this year.
Keeping accurate time is a quartz Calibre B033 movement, while time is set via a crown adorned with a cabochon-cut rubellite.
