We all know that the bread and butter of most fashion labels is accessories, especially bags, and Chloé is no exception. Recent hits such as the Drew and the Faye bags are everywhere these days, and we’re not talking about borrowed samples showing up at fashion week but about on-the-go girls carrying them everywhere from Hong Kong to New York and Tokyo.
This, however, doesn’t mean that the clothes play second fiddle to the money makers that complement them. Season after season, Clare Waight Keller, Chloé’s creative director, has been honing her aesthetic for the brand, adding elements such as sporty influences and mannish tailoring to a label often associated with frilly femininity.
Pleated chiffon gowns, white lace dresses and flower prints also made an appearance this season, but they were juxtaposed with oversize blouses held together by drawstrings, slouchy suits worn over T-shirts and practical striped dungarees. A series of Instagram-friendly chiffon dresses featuring rope straps will be everywhere next fashion week, but even girls who’re not looking for a photo-op will look fabulous wearing pieces from a collection that offered chic wardrobe staples with just the right amount of pizzazz.
