Part of creative director Daniel Lee’s first offerings for the maison, the Pouch helped shape his vision of the new Bottega Veneta when it was introduced in Spring/Summer 2019.
A sophisticated modernisation of the granny purse, the oversized, pillowy clutch is cast in soft folds of leather that enwrap a sturdy magnetic frame, creating a voluminous dumpling-like form.
Now a house icon, it has lent itself to a range of materials, colours and styles, sporting different looks over the seasons. Minimalist-luxe pieces in nappa leather or the signature Intrecciato weave are popular, but there are seasonal standouts that range from the chic hobo-style Shoulder Pouch to a playful, fuzzy variation in foiled looped lambskin called The Sponge.
The Pre-Fall 2020 incarnation is another testimony of its versatility and timeless allure. A spin-off from Spring/Summer 2020’s Chain Pouch that had a shoulder strap of chunky square metal rings, the Fringe Pouch has an adjustable skinny shoulder strap. It is distinguished by a cascading leather fringe created by inserting a panel of thin leather strips — measuring over half a metre long — in the seam of the bag’s base. Swinging along as you move, they are an apt expression of the Pouch’s perpetual innovation.
