When Kris Van Assche came on board Berluti as artistic director in 2018, he brought a contemporary eye to the Parisian menswear and luxury footwear brand. A vision he had was to merge a patterned canvas with Berluti’s hand-patinated Venezia leather.
“My idea was to design a printed canvas that would look as if it had always existed in the archives,” said Assche in a statement. Taking inspiration from the archives, Assche created a motif that fuses the brand’s new logo that he adapted from Alessandro Berluti’s first pair of shoes, and the Scritto motif that’s an ode to Olga Berluti’s calligraphy.
