If you have been lusting after the Dior Saddle bag that is all over Instagram, we’re pretty sure you’ll love the new Dior 30 Montaigne bag. A classic and elegant piece of art, owning it is akin to possessing a piece of history, because the bag is an homage to the house’s heritage headquarters on 30 Avenue Montaigne.
When Christian Dior first passed the little townhouse, he knew it would be the perfect home for his couture label. Weeks before the Maison’s first-ever show, the atelier was officially inaugurated and an icon was born. Decorated in a neoclassical Louis XIV style, it was a sumptuous sight of crystal chandeliers, gilded mirrors, white panelling, and furnishings upholstered in La Toile de Jouy fabrics. A fitting location for the birthplace of the house’s storied couture collections, including the post-war New Look.
Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri resonates with that feeling of instant connection.
“I felt it right away when I stepped inside 30 Avenue Montaigne… I thought about creating a new line that would reflect the identity of the House and, at the same time, offer women the opportunity to create a ‘My Dior’ allure in harmony with their lifestyle.”
And so the 30 Montaigne collection was born. Central to this is its bag, which features Christian Dior’s initials as an oversized clasp with the 30 Montaigne signature discreetly embossed in the back. It’s available in seven colourways, in solid calfskin, and logo fabric in blue and burgundy with leather details. Wear it on your shoulder, as a crossbody with its military-style buckle, or hold it as a clutch. Which ever way you choose, it’s a versatile piece that works for both work and play.
Like the bag, the overall 30 Montaigne collection is timeless. Among the pieces in the capsule range are ones that draw inspiration from the New Look, which articulated a distinctly feminine silhouette of rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, and a full, A-line skirt, such as the double-breasted Bar jacket and tulle pleated skirt.
