The sneaker culture is strong and thankfully for our well-rested feet, shows no signs of slowing down. So big has it become, that the footwear is as popular on the streets of Harajuku as it is now among designer labels like Versace and Burberry. These big names are dipping their toes into collaborations and ready-to-wear collections with sneakers ranging from sporty to chic, for men and women alike. But as you know, one pair of sneakers (or two in this case) is never enough. Grow your collection with a few more favourites of the season:
What do you get when you weave classic sophistication into the fabric of Puma’s street swagger? Two special-edition sneakers; a unisex Roma and a Roma Armor for women. The first is made with soft leather while the later features a satin finish. Both show off an oversized ‘Karl Lagerfeld‘ branding on the midsole.
Burberry is celebrating its brand new monogram with this collection; a distinctive house code designed by British art director and graphic designer Peter Saville, and commissioned by chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci. The interlocking ‘TB’ initials were inspired by a selection of 20th-century Thomas Burberry logo motifs in the house’s archive. So really, it’s like owning a piece of historical art.
The Versace Chain Reaction family has a new golden child. These light runner sneakers have a bi-material sole that magnifies the chain details with a striking chain link rubber outsole; the gene trait of the Chain Reaction family. A mix of neoprene, mesh and rubber meet bold colours, boasting even neon and fluorescent tones.
Why ‘Blabber’? Giuseppe Zanotti says he wanted a name that was “stylistically loud-mouth but in a way tame” — a perfect fit for a sneaker design inspired by the old-school skater world in styles like tartan, croc-printed leather and fluorescent. Blabber comes in both low- and high-top for men and women.
Louis Vuitton is now offering a “Now Yours” personalisation service for men’s sneakers. Three versions of the Run Away sneakers are available: full calf leather, full alligator or a mix of alligator and calf leather. Once you’ve picked out 13 different zones for your pair all the way from laces to soles, initials can be hot-stamped on the heel or placed on the side. It takes about six to eight weeks for your pair to arrive, but it’s worth it.
