Alessandro Michele has done it again. Under his keen eye, the nearly 100-year-old house of Gucci has been given a new, eclectic lease of life. Today, it announced the third wave of the Gucci Pin, a range of temporary stores that takes inspiration from the pins seen on digital maps. This comes after two successive launches during the holiday and Chinese New Year seasons. Now, the pin has found its way to the Gucci store at ION Orchard. A custom Gucci pin will appear on Google Maps.
The psychedelic Gucci pin is an ode to the collection, which is a vivacious celebration of 1970s psychedelia. The GG logo has seen a playful interpretation, and put through a streetwear lens with the addition of a multi-colour stars motif, in the creation of a distinct pattern that heavily features on ready-t0-wear, leather goods, shoes, luggage, and a watch. This reinvention of sorts hinges on visual distortion, surreal imagery and a play on vivid colours — a theme you’ll see with the pin that brings to mind an ethereal dreamscape of reflections and refractions.
