Gucci sends a message of joy and optimism via a new collection for Pre-Fall.
As its name Towards the Sun alludes, this special range — it includes bags, shoes, small leather goods and accessories such as scarves and hats — celebrates the house’s glorious free spirit through the lens of light and warmth.
Colour is key, with playful pastels dominating the palette. It presents a refreshing new look for the GG Marmont 2.0, Gucci Zumi and Gucci 1995 Horsebit lines.
The other two standout colour combinations is the nautical white and blue set for a selection of GG Marmont 2.0 pieces, and the striking red, yellow, green, blue Baiadera stripes that is slated to be released in stores in July. (The GG Marmont 2.0 and Gucci 1955 Horsebit bags are available via remote client shopping services, Gucci 9, now.)
Ready-to-wear completes the Towards the Sun offerings. For women, there are airy-light linen dresses, ethnic-style cotton jacquard kaftans, crochet knitwear and in particular, a high-waisted, wide-legged denim pants embroidered with a jacquard label that says: Gucci quelle qu’en soit la saison (“Gucci whatever the season” in French). There are also pyjamas sets comprising a shirt and matching short pants with details such as bib collars or bowling necks, and come in patterns that include azure and ivory G-stripe and a Hawaiian Dream print.
Over in the menswear department, a silk bomber and cotton tracksuits, in Gucci’s signature Web stripes and seasonal prints, are highlights of the range.
The brand also sneaked in six new things in this special collection.
#1 The Double G hardware on GG Marmont 2.0 shows up in a shiny silver finish for the first time.
#2 The Gucci 1995 Horsebit range welcomes a new style for the shoulder bag and the top-handle bag, which teams the distinctive Original GG patterned canvas with white leather trim.
#3 The Gucci 1995 Horsebit range also unveils a new bucket bag. Featuring a semi-rigid circular base and a leather top with a drawstring closure, it is enriched with a small version of the gold metal Horsebit detail.
#4 The Turn Towards the Sun collection reintroduces a print from the house’s archive. The bold Baiadera pattern adorns bags and men’s shoes. The linen bags sporting this stripe have an external oval red leather tag displaying the Gucci script logo in gold.
#5 Among the bag styles decked with the Baiadera stripes is a slim messenger, a new shape that can be worn cross-body.
#6 Something else that’s new: Men’s slides with a thick rubber sole.
