Hermès has long stood for travel since its beginnings in equestrian outfitting.
Even when the pandemic kept all of us grounded (hopefully not for long now), the French luxury house continued to deliver intelligent, timeless and purposeful collections to be moved in and with, as amplified in last season’s fashion triptych.
For Hermès’ Spring/Summer 2022, Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski zeroed in on the notion of travel with a presentation held at Le Bourget airport in Paris. A panorama of mobile panels, hand-painted by artist Flora Moscovici in sunshine-yellow, glided slowly around the perimeter of the space, conveying optimism and the sun. At the finale, the hangar door opened and a plane landed right on cue, signalling a re-emergence into the new world.
The collection reflects that sense of hope and adventure. Drawstring waists and cropped tops exude ease and comfort, but are made ultra-sophisticated in buttery leather. Dresses feature athletic cuts to show off shoulders. The pieces in dark leather are images of refined sensuality, as seen in a corset-like dress, structured shift dresses, and an all-black overalls.
