After weeks of rumours, it’s finally official: Prada and Adidas have announced a sneaker collaboration. Both brands confirmed this on Instagram today by uploading the same image of two Adidas shoe boxes — one Adidas and one Adidas Originals — ensconced in a Prada shopping bag.
A major comeback for sneakers and 1990s looks on catwalks has projected certain sportswear makers into the limelight and allowed others to team up with ready-to-wear designers and brands. However, given that it involves not just any label but the Prada luxury house, this latest development with Adidas on a sneaker collaboration is nonetheless likely to cause quite a stir.
For the moment the two brands have not disclosed much information on their new endeavour beyond their matching Instagram images — which are accompanied by the hashtag “#Pradaforadidas”– and dedicated pages on Prada’s and Adidas’ websites for fans to sign up for updates. But it is reasonable to expect that the Prada and Adidas sneaker collaboration will showcase at least two distinct sneaker models.
This news also recalls the announcement by Puma, Balmain and Cara Delevingne in October to the effect that the French fashion house had joined forces with the sports brand and the British top model to launch a ready-to-wear and accessories collection that will be available in stores from November 21.
